Biography
Built on the Devon Street site of the Ship Inn in 1880, the Criterion Hotel was the location of one of robberies by 'The Highwayman' Robert Wallath in July 1893. The Hotel was closed in 1984 and demolished in 1986 to make way for a parking building and shopping arcade fronting onto Devon Street.
