View of New Plymouth and Mount Taranaki from the sea. To the left of the foreground a wooden dinghy is partially sunk and to the right a body is floating in the sea. A large seagull/albatross flies above the body. In the middleground notable buildings in New Plymouth township can be seen, such as St Mary's Church, the barracks on Marsland Hill, Browns Stores and Puke Ariki pa. Two ships are visible along the shore.
