The collection contains a diary 12 July 1872 - 12 Jan 1874 covering part of the period when Carrington was the Member of the House of Representatives for Grey and Bell, a 1842 World Atlas published by J. Arrowsmith presented to Frederic Alonzo Carrington in 1856 and a manuscript map of New Plymouth unnamed and undated, but assumed to be drawn at the time of 1842 map of New Plymouth as the annotations are the same.
