Description
Mary Homeyer (d.1882) and her family arrived in New Zealand on the passenger ship Mariner from Gravesend, a town in northwest Kent, England. Arriving at Port Chalmers in Otago on 2 August 1850, the family remained onboard until the ship reached New Plymouth on 11 October 1850. This collection includes Mary's diary, entitled "The Narrative Of A Voyage In An Emigrant Ship From London To New Zealand". Written in a narrative style, it describes the events, weather, entertainments and passengers on the voyage to New Zealand between 3 April and 13 October 1850.
