Biography
Christian and Mary Homeyer with their children Emily, Elizabeth and Henry arrived on the ship Marriner 11 October 1850. Mrs Homeyer established a private girls school in Devon Street which was later moved to Courtenay Street (sections 2077-79) 1877 - 1882.
Henry Homeyer gave lessons in violin and dancing and conducted amateur concerts. He organised a concert 1 March 1858 which was reviewed as 'a great success'.
Emily married Alexander King 28 May 1856. She also taught music and singing and was a very useful member of the Philharmonic Society.
Elizabeth married James Ritchie on the 22 August 1855.
Christian Homeyer was a storekeeper on Devon Street. He died 10 October 1875 aged 70 years.
