This tallcase clock belonged to the notable surveyor of Taranaki, Frederic Alonzo Carrington. Carrington brought the clock's movement with him from England in 1841 and the case was made in New Plymouth by carpenter Jonathan Pearn, using wood from a puketea tree that grew on the corner of King and Egmont Street. Taranaki Museum purchased the clock from the massive collection of Fred Butler.
