Description
Copy of an original carte de visite portrait of Mary Ann Nuki Benson (Rongowhakaata, Ngāti Kahungunu, Pākehā), who married William Henry Sampson and later married Captain Gladwyn Wynyard (58th Regiment). Nuki wears a kaitaka around her shoulders, adorned with tāniko. Her hair is long and curly, draped across her shoulders. The photograph is included on page 58 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
