Description
Copy of an original carte de visite portrait of Captain Francis Joseph Mace of the Taranaki Military, recipient of the New Zealand Cross. Seated outside a building, Mace appears from the waist up, facing toward his right. Dressed in formal attire, Mace wears a bowlder hat, suit and tie, and two medals on his left breast, the right of which is the New Zealand Cross. He has a full, greying beard, and a darker toned moustache. The photograph is included on page 55 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
