Copy of original portrait of Te Arawa Ngati Pikiao leader Te Pokiha Taranui and Te Rangipaoa (aka Hemaima Rewiri), his wife. Each dressed in light-toned cotton shirts, the couple appear in a wharenui beneath kowhaiwhai heke. Pokiha wears a kahu kurī and Ngarangikaki wears a kahu waero. Both Te Pokiha and Ngarangikaki hold mere pounamu in their right hands. Te Pokiha is seated in a chair and Ngarangikaki stands to his left. She is wearing a large hei tiki around her neck and her hair is long, half in a top knot and half draped around her shoulders. Te Pokiha has short dark hair and a full, light-toned beard and large moustache. On the wall in the background, behind Te Pokiha, hangs a black rimmed hat and two walking sticks. The photograph is included on page 48 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
