Copy of original carte de visite portrait of General Trevor Chute (31 July 1816 – 12 March 1886) of the 70th (Surrey) Regiment. Dressed in military uniform with a sash and trouser seam stripe, Chute appears seated in a dining chair facing to his right, holding his sword in his left hand, leaning it against his leg. His right arm rests on a table next to him, partially visible on the left side of the photograph, on which his hat has been placed. He has a moustache and full beard. The photograph is included on page 48 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
