Copy of original studio portrait of General Sir Fiennes Middleton Colvile
of the 43rd Regiment. Portrait shows Colville in his later years, in military uniform, seated with his left hand resting in his lap (he lost his right arm in a battle near Warea in 1865). He is wearing four medals on his left breast. His feathered hat rests on a small table to his right and his sword is leaning on his left leg.The photograph is included on page 45 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
