Description
An Indian Mutiny Medal. The silver medal features a young head profile of Queen Victoria on the obverse. " VICTORIA REGINA " is embossed around the profile. The reverse features a Britannia figure holding victor's laurels, with the British lion alongside. " INDIA" is embossed at the top. "1857-1858 " is embossed near the bottom. " JAS HY POPE, 2ND BN RIFLE BDE" is marked on the edge. The medal is attached to the white and red striped ribbon by a decorative suspension bar. A " LUCKNOW " clasp is mounted on the ribbon. The ribbon is mounted on cardboard.

This medal was awarded to J Pope for service during the Sepoy Mutiny, India during 1857-1858. It was donated to Taranaki Museum as part of the collection of prominent south Taranaki lawyer John Houston.
