Description
A French Croix de Guerre. The bronze cross also features crossed swords. The centre off the obverse of the cross features a right facing profile of a women wearing a laurel wreath which represents the French Republic. " REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE " is marked around the edge. " 1914-1917 " is marked on the reverse. The green and orange striped ribbon is attached to the cross through a horizontally pierced barrel suspender. A star is mounted on the ribbon.

Captain Eliot Millar King earned this Croix de Guerre while piloting Short seaplanes with the 64th (Naval) Wing based at Port Said, Egypt during World War I. Flying in at least sixty-three sorties, he was involved in bombing, ship escort and submarine search.
