Copy photograph of a portrait of Captain Francis Joseph [Frank] Mace, Taranaki Mounted Rifle Volunteers and winner of the New Zealand Cross. Mace is standing in an outdoor setting and is wearing a suit with two medals pinned to his chest. He is wearing a bowler hat and leaning with both hands against a cane. Vegetation is visible in the background. The photograph is included on page 14 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith". A piece of paper with his signature has been glued beneath the photograph.
