From papers found amongst TSAC Collection archives: "Jonathan Purdy was born in Wellington in 1966, but shifted to Taranaki as a young child. He was educated at Vogeltown School, Highlands Intermediate School and Spotswood College. At present [1987?] a fourth year Diploma of Fine Arts Graphics student at Otago Polytechnic he hopes to follow in the footsteps of his parents and become a teacher.
As a child he frequently accompanied his parents to concerts at New Plymouth's Govett-Brewster gallery, developing an interest as much in the art being exhibited as in the music of the various recitals."
