Stanley Palmer (1936- ) was born in at Turua in the Coromandel. He has lived in Mt Eden, Auckland since 1941. Palmer trained as an art teacher but from 1970 Stanley has worked as a full-time printmaker from a home based print workshop. The variety of Stanley Palmer's print-making output has been astonishing, his work has included woodcuts, monoprints and bamboo engravings. The scenes he portrays mainly feature New Zealand coasts with themes of colonisation, conservation, humanity and the land. Stanley Palmer been quoted endearingly that he likes to make art that is accessible and "free from pretensions." We have two new prints of Stanley Palmer's work in stock.

Stanley Palmer is a Painter and Printmaker. His first regular exhibitions began in the early 1960's. Until 1969 Stanley was teaching in Auckland, N.Z. In 1969 he was awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Art Council grant and in 1970 became a professional printmaker and painter.
Stanley has had regular and numerous one-man exhibitions at leading galleries in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
He is represented in The National Gallery, most other New Zealand public collections and many private collections in New Zealand and overseas.
Stanley was a founding member of the N.Z. Contemporary Medallion group in 1989. Stanley saw this as an opportunity to express himself in three dimensions in a very accessible medium i.e. hand held sculpture.
