Biography
Soldier and geologist.
F H Baddeley had a long and distinguished career in the Royal Engineers after gaining his Lieutenant's Commission on 1 January 1814 and serving in Europe during the Napoleonic Wars. He served in New Zealand from 1853-1856, supervising the construction of the Marsland Hill military barracks in 1855. In 1856 he retired with the rank of Major-General and returned to England.
