Biography
Ruthven McLauren Monteath was born on the 30th of July 1896 (TH 31st July 1896). He was the son of Lawrence and Emmie (nee Raikes) Monteath, who were married on the 19th of September 1893 (TH 23rd September 1893). His father Lawrence was born in 1869 in Bengal, India. Other children to the couple, and Ruthven's siblings, included Evelyn, Theresa, and Kirsteen Monteath.
Lawrence Monteath farmed on Tariki road and was, for a time, the Chairman of the Moa Dairy Co-Operative. The family later moved to Octavius place (New Plymouth).
Ruthven Monteath married Margery Cuthbertson on the 31st of December 1924 (TH 3rd January 1925).
