Biography
Captain Lloyd's death was the result of a Maori ambush at Te Ahauhu. Five men were decapitated and Lloyd's head was taken to Pipiriki, near the Wanganui River. With Lloyd's head on display, some members of the newly formed Hauhau religion thought the action was a call for war and many Maori set off to avenge the deaths of their family members.
