Biography
At the outbreak of World War I Eric Lewes joined the 16th Waikato Company with the rank of Private and saw active service at Gallipoli. His reminiscence covers the first few days of action at Gallipoli, including the defence of Hill 700.
On returning to New Zealand he resided in Mokau and operated the cream run on the Mokau River. Eric's wife (Thyrza Sage) taught at the Mokau school as Head Teacher 1924 - 1928 and as a reliever 1942 - 1945.
