Biography
The ship Halcione captained by J.E. Crocker left England in May 1875 bound for Taranaki and Wellington and arrived in September 1875. The trip took 99 days but during 10 of these the boat was becalmed. During the voyage there were three births but eight children under the age of two died. The ship arrived at the New Plymouth roadstead on September 2 1875. On the morning of the 3rd September some of the passengers were rowed to shore, rough conditions prevented all the passengers being disembarked and they were taken on to Wellington and returned to New Plymouth by the coastal ship Taranaki on the 9th September 1875.
