Biography
Born 9 October 1842 at Russell, she was the daughter of Kotiro Hinerangi of Ngati Tupaea and William Lord, and half sister to Te Paea Hinerangi, the famous Pink and White Terraces guide.
During the Taranaki Wars Lucy Lord/Wikitoria/Takiora and her first husband served as interpreters and guides for British commanders, notably Gustav von Tempsky.
After the conflict ended, she aided the government in the purchase of Maori land and was paid 10 pounds per month and 400 pounds in confiscated land.
She was labelled a traitor by other Iwi and remained in the service of Pakeha for many years eventually marrying surveyor Joseph Dalton. She died in 1893.
