1987 William Tume Recording-RNZ
-Volunteered as a Maori reinforcement. He was placed in the 6th reinforcement. Sent in 1915 to Auckland for
inventory training (learnt how to shoot a rifle).
Tume states that after the casualties at Galipoli, Māori went from active inventory to becoming a "labourers" regiment (digging and building on the front line). From the on pour of shrapenel etc. the Māori soldiers had to hide behind their shovels where Mr Tume remebers when he had to cover his own face with his shovel head.
