Biography
Frederick Clinton Herman Stuart Baddeley was born in Quebec in 1831. After military training at Sandhurst he was assigned to the 40th Regiment at Dublin. In 1850 he transferred to Australia where he served on the goldfields. He was transferred to New Zealand following the outbreak of hostilities and served in a number of redoubts before being promoted to Major and posted to the Taranaki Military Settlers. Following the Taranaki Land Wars, he held various civic positions and eventually retired to his Inglewood farm where he died in 1907.
