Biography
Gunnar Berger and Sons factory operated on the outskirts of Eltham until about 1980. Many of the company's products were sold to local schools.
Gunnar Berger came from Sweden in 1951 to set up, in association with the Eltham Dairy Co-operative, an industry to extract lactose from milk. He was financed by a Danish millionaire, Borup Jorgensen, who initially accompanied him to Eltham. Two other Swedes, Nordmark and Person, were involved in the establishment of the factory-which was independent of the Lactose Company at Kapuni. Berger left the company to open his toy and puzzle factory in 1957.
