Biography
Arthur John Gilmour was from Manaia, Taranaki, and was the son of John and Jessie Gilmour, born 1891. He studied as a boarder at Nelson College, and then at Knox College in Dunedin. He trained for three months at Trentham in 1915 before departing from Wellington for battle. He fought on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey and then in France where he died of wounds in October 1916. He is buried in the St Sever Cemetery in Rouen, France.
He served as part of the Otago Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion; Sixth Reinforcements, D Company. His service number was 8/2515.
