Biography
Born in 1856 in Rosehearty, Aberdeenshire, where he was brought up to farm life. In 1875 he came to New Zealand on the ship “Edwin Fox,” and worked on the railways for some time, afterwards becoming manager of a property owned by Mr. Baker at Waverley. Mackie settled at the Kohi and worked as the manager of the Kohi Creamery. Later he moved to Kaimata where he managed the Kaimata Creamery for the Moa Farmers Co-op Dairy Company, the role from which he was dismissed in 1908. Mackie had three sons and three daughters. Later in life owned the general store in Kaimata. He died in Kaimata in September 1930.
