Biography
Lieutenant Frederick Charles Rowan was a soldier in the 43rd Regiment and later, the Armed Constabulary. He was severly injured during the Land Wars and underwent facial reconstruction surgery in England before returning to New Zealand as Sub-Inspector for the Armed Constabulary. He was married to artist and painter, Ellis Rowan, in 1873.
