Biography
Colonel John McNeill was colonel of the 107th Regiment in New Zealand and served as an Aide-de-Camp under General Duncan Alexander Cameron. He was awareded the Victoria Cross in 1864 for helping to save the life of Private Vosper whose horse fell and threw him during an ambush consisting of 50 Maori troops. McNeill returned to Vosper and helped the private back onto the horse. He later achieved the rank of major-general and became an equerry to Queen Victoria.
