Taken during the Taranaki Provincial District Jubilee in 1891, celebrating 50 years of European settlement. The men photographed were war veterans, one of a number of groups invited to march to the racecourse. Members assembled in Brougham Street, near the railway station, at 10.30am before the march. The veterans had received their medals just two years before, 29 years after the Battle of Waireka. Oliver Spurdle is standing in the third row back, sixth from the left. This photograph has been adhered to a brown coloured mount.

This photograph was taken on Tuesday 31st March 1891. The occasion was the Jubilee of the Taranaki Provincial District 1891 celebrating 50 years of the European settlement. The group photographed were the War Veterans who were one of a number of groups invited to march to the Racecourse. The members assembled in Brougham Street, near the Railway Station at 10.30 a.m. before the march. The Jubilee was held from Monday 30th March to Friday 3rd April. The veterans had received their medals just two years before, 29 years after the Battle of Waireka. Oliver Spurdle is standing in the third row back, sixth from the left.
