James (Jimmy) Rothery died on 30/11/1918 at the Stratford Hospital having been transported from Whangamomona on the train. His brother in law, Andrew Riddell, died at Stratford Hospital on the 28/11/1918. Both are buried at the Kopuatama Cemetery, Stratford. The headstone of James Rothery has his date of death as 25/11/1918 but that is incorrect.

My great Uncle Jimmy Rothery. He later ran the Whangamomona Hotel and sadly died in the flu epidemic of 1919, as did his brother-in-law Andrew Riddell who was the Postmaster in Whangamomona.
