Description
A commemorative medallion designed to mark the return of a group of military medals to the Queen Elizabeth II Army Memorial Museum in Waiouru after they were stolen. The circular medal features a replica Victoria Cross design. " RETURN OF THE VICTORIA CROSSES " is embossed around the outside of this design. The New Zealand Army crest is embossed on the reverse. " THE NATIONAL ARMY MUSEUM " is embossed around the edge. The medal is accompanied by an invitation to the return ceremony on 21 October 2008 which is addressed to George Grant.

This medal was presented to George Grant, grandson of John Gildroy Grant VC, during the ceremonies surrounding the return of 96 military medals which were stolen from the New Zealand National Army Museum in Waiouru on 2 December 2007. J G Grant's VC was among the nine VCs that were stolen. The official ceremony marking the formal return of the medals to the museum by the police was held on 21 October 2008.
