Commandant's House at Pukearuhe

Production date
Circa 1884
Description
Photograph of the Commandant's house at Pukearuhe (Captain W.B. Messenger's house). There are three young girls holding hands standing in front of a bay window on the house. The house is covered in a vine. The girls are wearing dresses and coats. An unknown man, presumably their father, is standing in in front of them pointing a toy, shaped like a lion or other animal, at them. He is wearing a hat, a white shirt, and dirty pants. The man could possibly be William E.B. Messenger. The photograph appears to be a copy.

I'm almost certain this is William Bazire Messenger's father, William Messenger Senior. This man is definitely older than photos of WB Messenger taken in the same era. William snr was shot in the elbow at Waireka and this man could possible have a disabled arm. The middle girl is probably Marion Alice Messenger, my great grandmother.
