Description
A family bible inscribed with the name Mrs W. Nichols inside the front cover and the birthdates and names of Helen, Alice, Lucy and Emily Hart inside the back cover.
Mrs Nichols was Alice Clarkson, first wife of Richard Hart. The couple married in India in 1857 and their daughters Helen and Alice were born there in 1860 and 1863. Third daughter Lucy was born in New Plymouth in 1866 after the couple immigrated to New Zealand on the ship Lady Jocelyn in 1863 and their last daughter Emily (also known as Amelia) was born in 1868. Richard died the same year, during the third Taranaki War at the battle of Te Ngutu-o-te-manu. Alice remarried William Nichols in 1872.

Hi Alice Nichols is my 3rd great grandmother can anyone help me with this side and am I able to have a photo of her please. Helen Hart whom married Thomas Walsh was my 2nd great grandmother and is there any photos of them and their son Richard Edmund Walsh?

Is anyone able to verify if Margaret Lawrence was the actual mother of Alice or the stepmother? And, was Margaret of Indian/Portugese ancestory?
