New Plymouth Readers' Club

Production date
1952-1973
Description
Established in July 1952 as the Writers' and Readers' Club with the object of showing prospective writers how to express their ideas and publish stories and as a venue for group study of literature, the name was changed in September 1952 to The New Plymouth Literary Society. In 1968 the name changed to New Plymouth Readers' Club to place stress on the main activity of the club, the reading and discussion of books of every type and in any age. Meetings were held in the reading room of the New Plymouth Public Library. The club was placed in recess in 1973 due to declining membership and participation in meetings.
The collection includes Minute books, financial records, a correspondence file and membership lists.
