This trench art napkin ring is thought to have been decorated by Trooper Harry Cheney, who came from Manaia, south Taranaki. According to information on Auckland War Memorial Museum's Cenotaph database Cheney embarked with the 5th Reinforcements of the Wellington Mounted Rifles and arrived in Egypt in mid 1915. The napkin ring was donated to Taranaki Museum in 1967 as part of a collection of souvenirs and other items made by Nell Christie.
