Dark stained wooden box in bad state of repair. Cover for box lid broken off. Pieces of box missing from underside at back. Box has 14 compartments and contains 13 bottles and 1 measuring vial. Approx date 1800-30.

1800s
in
colonial
New
Zealand.
Until
the
first
medical
school
opened
in
1975,
most
doctors
in
New
Zealand
trained
overseas.
A
local
doctor
would
have
to
treat
a
whole
range
of
ailments
with
limited
supplies,
from
helping
women
give
birth
to
respiratory
infections
and
all
manner
of
wounds.
