Credit line
This medal was issued to Matthew Watson for his Crimean War service with the 57th Regiment. While these types of medals were originally designed for issue to Sardinian troops they were issued to British troops as well. Watson arrived in Taranaki in 1861 and farmed in the Ōākura area until he died in 1914.
