This photograph is of my mother, Joan. She was born Mary Joan Robinson in 1924 and is now (2017) 90 years old. She thinks this photograph would have been taken around 1929, when she and her parents, Keith and Daisy, moved to New Plymouth from Invercargill. Keith, a surveyor, had been brought up in New Plymouth, where he went to school. The teddy bear she is holding is 'Mr Teddy' (there was apparently a 'Mrs Teddy' as well!). Mum has fond memories of Joe Swainson, who was a lovely man and very good with children. He gave her a Christmas present every year until the family departed for Dunedin in the late 1930s, and she still has some of these gifts.
