Cyclist Joe Blackwell of Kaponga with the winner's trophy from the 1926 Round The Mountain cycle race. The cup is the Britannia Tyre Challenge Cup. first awarded in 1911. The race was 104 miles long with the circular route going from New Plymouth around Mount Taranaki via Oakura, Okato, Rahotu, Opunake, Kaponga, Eltham, Stratford, Inglewood, Egmont Village and Mangorei, finishing in front of the grandstand at the racecourse. Joe had a handicap of 28 minutes and won the race in 4 hours 50 minutes and 45 seconds.

Edit of above comment: According to research by Kelvin Eden, Secretary, Cycling New Plymouth Inc, from a book titled "Round the Mountain" authored by Ian Gray, if this photo is 1926, it is Joe Blackwell of Kaponga with the winner's trophy from the 1926 round the mountain race. The cup is the Britannia Tyre Challenge Cup first raced for in 1911 & still raced for today. Joe had a handicap of 28m and won the race in 4h 50m 45s. The 1924 race, two years earlier, was reported in the Hawera & Normanby Star as being a circular road race around Mount Egmont, 104 miles in length, the route followed was from New Plymouth, via Oakura, Okato, Rahotu, Opunake (check and feeding station), Kaponga, Eltham (check and feeding, station), Stratford, Inglewood, Egmont Village, Mangorei, finishing in front of the grandstand on the racecourse
