Description
Daguerreotype of the Reverend Henry Hanson Turton. Turton is wearing robes and a white collar. He is looking directly at the camera. The image is hand tinted on Turton's face. The daguerreotype is housed in a maroon plain leather case lined with plain maroon velvet. It has a gold metal matt and embossed metal edging around that. The case has double clasps on the left hand side. The daguerreotype was taken by Lawson Insley while on his tour of New Zealand during 1852-53. It is one of the earliest daguerreotypes known to have been made in New Zealand.
