A hand tinted ambrotype portrait of an unknown beared man dressed in British military mess uniform. He is wearing a white shirt with a black bow tie, a red military jacket with white cuffs and a white and black collar, a red waist coat, and black trousers. He is wearing a row of medals on the jacket. He is seated and has one arm resting on a table. The man's face, jacket and gold detailing have been hand tinted. The portrait has a gold metal oval matt with an embossed gold metal border. The ambrotype and metal enclosure has possibly been removed from a leather case.
