Description
Oval convex solar print of Paul Willcox (1856-1923). Bust portrait that has been heavily retouched and print has been varnished. Willcox has a beard and is pictured wearing a suit and tie. Colour behind the figure has been applied in an early form of airbrushing. Born in Skenfrith, Monmouthshire, he emigrated to New Zealand in 1876 and worked as a blacksmith in Canterbury before moving to Taranaki about 1898 when he bought a farm on Lower Kahui Road, Rahotu.

This is my great-grandfather, Paul Willcox (1856-1923). Born in Skenfrith, Monmouthshire, he emigrated to New Zealand in 1876 and worked as a blacksmith in Canterbury before moving to Taranaki about 1898. in 1989, he bought a farm on Lower Kahui Road, Rahotu.
