Description
Oral history recording. Albert Tarawha Whakaneke (1923-1997) was born at Waiokura marae in Manaia, the son of Tamanui and Hawea Whakaneke. He describes his education and life in Manaia as well as changes in the town. Albert worked in a woollen mill in Petone during the Second World War then in the forestry industry in Motueka before returning to the Patea Freezing Works. He later worked at the Kaupokonui and Waiokura cheese factories and Riverdale Dairy Company then as a groundsman at Hawera Hospital.
