Description
Oral history. His boy soprano voice gave him entry to the Chapel Royal choir. Joined the Navy at 17 years and had 8 years there, including submarine experience. Was to emigrate to NZ on 10 pound assisted passage, but it ceased just before he left so had to pay 300 pounds. Came to New Plymouth first and worked as a truck driver. Employed by 2ZB meant a move to Wellington, followed by 31 years in broadcasting, winning Mobil award for top announcer. Retired to New Plymouth and is interested in gardening, theatre and has travelled overseas with the National Band.
