Oral history. Talks of early life in Central Otago, schooling at McRae's, Kingsford Smith landing in a paddock, nannying, parlour maid for Sir Lando and Lady Fergusson at 'Wychwood', and working in a boarding house at Queenstown. Accepted as a trainee at Timaru hospital. Married Bill Smither from Patea hospital and gives impressions of the hospital. Husband Bill worked for the Taranaki Daily News in Hawera, and built a silk screen printing machine in his retirement. Describes son Michael's childhood as being musical and bookish at their Doralto St home.
