Production date
10 Aug 1920
Description
Moturoa Island, one of the Sugar Loaves, being blasted for rock with people sitting and standing on the beach to watch. As part of an ambitious plan for expansion of New Plymouth's port, it was hoped to link Moturoa Island and Lion Rock with a causeway to enable the reclamation of the area between the island and Mikotahi. The venture was ultimately unsuccessful and attention then turned to Paritutu as a source of rock.
