This plaque was produced to commemorate the opening of a new $130m milk processing plant at the Kiwi Co-Operative Dairies Hawera factory on 25 June 1993. Prime Minister Jim Bolger praised the initiative at the opening ceremony held at the plant. "Your management has pulled off a double in being both bold and prudent. That's what I am asking the rest of New Zealand to do as well," he said. Kiwi was merged with the New Zealand Dairy Board and the New Zealand Dairy Group to create Fonterra Co-operative Group Limited in 2001.
