This musket is an example of a cut down flintlock conversion of the early 1840s. It is likely to have been cut down and converted to a percussion weapon before it was shipped out to New Zealand. It is likely it arrived here in the 1840s with the British Imperial Regiments as this is the sort of firearm they were carrying at the time.
