A Snider Mark III patent .577 calibre artillery carbine with a brass nose cap, trigger guard and butt plate. " Tower 1874 " is marked on the lock plate . " N. Z 101 " is marked on the butt plate. " Hazard Gunmaker Auckland " is marked on the butt along with " Bond and James Birmingham."

This carbine was imported to New Zealand as part of a large contract purchase of weapons in 1880. The marks then indicate after it was removed from service it was sold into the New Zealand market by Hazard's of Auckland.
